Impressions

During my recent vacation in Split, I was captivated by the city’s rich history and vibrant atmosphere. One of the first places I visited was the iconic Riva, a lively waterfront promenade that stretches along the harbor. The Riva is not only a perfect spot to relax and enjoy a coffee while observing the bustling life of locals and tourists, but it also serves as a gateway to many of the city's landmarks. Just a short walk from the Riva, I explored the majesty of Diocletian's Palace, a UNESCO World Heritage site that dates back to the 4th century. This ancient palace, built by the Roman Emperor Diocletian, is a remarkable fusion of history, architecture, and vibrant modern life, filled with shops, restaurants, and cafes nestled within its walls.

A stroll through the narrow cobblestone streets of the palace led me to discover the Temple of Jupiter, located only about a kilometer away. This well-preserved Roman temple offers a glimpse into the city's ancient past and is a serene place for reflection. Nearby, I couldn’t miss the striking statue of Gregory of Nin, a beloved figure in Croatian history, who stands guard outside the Golden Gate, believed to bring good luck to those who touch his big toe. Additionally, the Croatian Maritime Museum, just a kilometer away, provided insight into Split's rich nautical history and maritime traditions, showcasing fascinating exhibits related to the Adriatic Sea.

To embrace the natural beauty of the area, I ventured to Bacvice Beach, only half a kilometer from the heart of the city. Known for its golden sandy shores and vibrant atmosphere, it turned out to be the perfect spot for sunbathing and enjoying a refreshing swim in the Adriatic Sea. As the sun set, I caught a film at the Bacvice Summer Cinema, an outdoor venue that added a unique charm to my evenings. On another day, the Ethnographic Museum Split and the Cathedral of Saint Domnius, both located within the vicinity of the palace, provided a rich overview of the region's cultural heritage and traditions. My time in Split was a blend of relaxation and exploration, making it a truly memorable vacation.
