Impressions

During my recent vacation in Split, I was captivated by the rich history and vibrant culture of this stunning Croatian city. One of the first landmarks I explored was the impressive Diocletian's Palace, a UNESCO World Heritage site that dates back to the Roman Empire. The palace is not only a historical marvel but also a bustling part of the city where shops, restaurants, and local life thrive within its ancient walls. Just a short walk away, the Cathedral of Saint Domnius, with its iconic bell tower, adds to the skyline and offers sweeping views of the city from the top. The entire area surrounding the palace is steeped in history, making it an essential stop for any traveler in Split.

In close proximity to the palace is the fascinating Archaeological Museum, located just about a kilometer away. This museum houses an extensive collection of artifacts that trace the city’s history from prehistoric times through the Roman era. After immersing myself in the past, I took a leisurely stroll towards the beautiful Republic Square, also known as Prokurative, where I appreciated the stunning architecture and the lively atmosphere. Nearby, the church and monastery of St. Frane, located a mere 0.3 kilometers from the square, offers a peaceful retreat to admire its serene architecture and historical significance.

While exploring the Old Split district, I felt as though I had stepped back in time, with narrow cobblestone streets and quaint cafes lining the paths. One of my favorite moments was spending time at the Riva, the vibrant waterfront promenade, which is a gathering place for locals and tourists alike. Additionally, I paid a visit to the iconic statue of Gregory of Nin, an influential medieval bishop, located just 0.5 kilometers from the Riva. The statue, known for its larger-than-life presence, invites visitors to rub its toe for good luck. With the Split Port just a kilometer away, I relished the opportunity to indulge in fresh seafood and soak in the lively ambiance, rounding off my vacation with memories that I will cherish for a lifetime.
