Impressions
During my recent vacation in Split, I was captivated by the vibrant blend of history and culture that this coastal city offers. One of the most iconic landmarks I had the privilege to visit was the magnificent Cathedral of Saint Domnius. Located just 0.3 km from my accommodation, this stunning structure is one of the oldest in the world still in use as a cathedral. Its bell tower provided me with breathtaking views of the old city and the Adriatic Sea. Nearby, I also explored the bustling streets of Old Split, where ancient Roman architecture coexists with modern shops and cafes, creating a unique atmosphere that's perfect for leisurely strolls.
Just a stone's throw from the cathedral, I encountered the captivating statue of Gregory of Nin, an important figure in Croatian history. The statue, also located just 0.3 km away, depicts the bishop in a commanding pose, and it is said that touching his big toe brings good luck. This area is rich in culture, and I took the opportunity to visit Froggyland—an unusual museum featuring a collection of stuffed frogs in various diorama settings that was both charming and amusing. A short walk further led me to the Ethnographic Museum, where I delved into the history and traditions of the Dalmatian region, further enriching my understanding of Split's cultural heritage.
As my exploration continued, I found that Split is home to an array of fascinating landmarks all within close proximity. The Temple of Jupiter, located just 0.5 km away, presented a glimpse into the Roman era, with its beautifully preserved structure and intriguing historical significance. I also ventured into the Split City Museum and the Croatian Maritime Museum, both about 1 km away, which showcased the city's maritime history and local storytelling. Each museum visit added another layer to my appreciation of Split's rich past. Overall, my short time in this enchanting city was filled with discovery and awe, leaving me eager to return and explore more.
