During my recent vacation in Split, I was captivated by the seamless blend of history and modernity that the city offers. Just a kilometer away from my accommodation, Old Split, a UNESCO World Heritage site, dazzles visitors with its medieval structures and vibrant atmosphere. Wandering through the winding streets, I stumbled upon the iconic Cathedral of Saint Domnius. This impressive Romanesque cathedral, originally built as a mausoleum for the Emperor Diocletian, stands as one of the oldest cathedrals in the world still in use. Nearby, the Temple of Jupiter, a well-preserved Roman monument, beckoned with its stunning architecture, a testament to the city’s ancient roots.
As I explored further, I found the tranquil surroundings of the church and monastery of St. Frane, just a half-kilometer away, which offered a peaceful escape from the bustling streets. A short stroll also led me to the notable statue of Gregory of Nin, a symbol of Croatian culture, which inspired a sense of pride among the locals. The rich offerings of museums kept me entertained, with the Archaeological Museum Split and the Museum of Croatian Archaeological Monuments providing deep insights into the region's storied past. I even took a whimsical detour to Froggyland, a quirky museum featuring a collection of stuffed frogs in various amusing poses. The Ethnographic Museum Split and the Live Museum Split rounded out my exploration, leaving me with a profound appreciation for the city’s heritage and charm. Each visit enriched my experience in this captivating Croatian gem.
