Impressions
During my vacation in Split, I was captivated by the city's rich history and stunning architecture, particularly in the UNESCO World Heritage site of Diocletian's Palace, located just half a kilometer from my accommodation. This ancient Roman palace served as the retirement residence of Emperor Diocletian and has been seamlessly integrated into the modern cityscape. Within this historic structure, I explored the bustling atmosphere of Old Split, where charming narrow streets are lined with shops and cafes, offering a glimpse into daily life in this vibrant coastal city. Just a stone's throw away, I visited the Cathedral of Saint Domnius, a stunning example of Roman architecture that houses impressive bell towers and art, and the well-preserved Temple of Jupiter, a unique testament to the religious practices of ancient Rome.
The nearby Live Museum Split provided an interactive glimpse into the region's history, showcasing life during the Roman Empire through engaging exhibits. A short walk from the palace led me to the Archaeological Museum Split, home to a vast collection of artifacts spanning from prehistoric times to the late Middle Ages. The city’s Republic Square, another noteworthy destination, buzzed with activity and was a perfect spot to relax and soak in the ambiance. As I strolled toward Split Port, I enjoyed watching the ferries come and go, connecting Split to the stunning nearby islands. It was a delightful blend of history, culture, and seaside beauty that made my trip to Split nothing short of unforgettable.
