Impressions

During my vacation in Split, I was struck by the vibrant atmosphere and rich history that permeates this stunning coastal city. One of the highlights of my stay was exploring Riva, the picturesque waterfront promenade that stretches alongside the harbor. Just a stone's throw away from some of the most prominent landmarks, Riva serves as a perfect starting point for visitors keen to delve into Split's cultural heritage. The lively cafes and palm-fringed walkways invite both locals and tourists alike to relax and indulge in the warm Mediterranean sun while watching boats come and go.

A few steps from Riva lies the iconic Diocletian's Palace, a UNESCO World Heritage site that is not only a remarkable feat of ancient architecture but also the heart of Split's historical center. The Palace’s intricate stone walls, towering columns, and atmospheric courtyards provide a glimpse into life during the Roman Empire, making it a must-visit landmark. Nearby, the Cathedral of Saint Domnius stands proudly, claiming the title of the oldest cathedral in continuous use in the world. I was captivated by its stunning bell tower and the fascinating history that surrounds the site, which is believed to have originally been built as a mausoleum for Emperor Diocletian himself.

As I continued my exploration, I discovered other nearby gems such as the Temple of Jupiter and the Split City Museum, both within a short 0.3 km radius. The Temple of Jupiter, with its beautifully preserved structure, offers an intimate encounter with the ancient past. Meanwhile, the Split City Museum provides insights into the city's evolution over the centuries. With the Croatian Maritime Museum just 0.5 km away, I made sure to also delve into Split's fascinating maritime history. For a bit of a stroll, I ventured further to Stadion Poljud, a sprawling sports complex 2 km from my base, which showcases Split's deep love for football and athletic events. Each of these landmarks contributed to a diverse and enriching experience, making my time in Split truly unforgettable.
