Impressions
My vacation in Split was an unforgettable experience, filled with rich history and stunning architecture. One of the most iconic sites I visited was the Peristyle of Diocletian's Palace, which is just a short stroll from the city center. This ancient Roman monument is a grand courtyard flanked by exquisite columns and serves as the heart of Diocletian's Palace, a UNESCO World Heritage site. Just steps away, the impressive Cathedral of Saint Domnius stands proudly, originally built as a mausoleum for the emperor himself. I enjoyed the breathtaking views from the bell tower, where I could see the vibrant city and the sparkling Adriatic Sea.
As I explored further, I found myself captivated by the rich narratives embedded within the city's historical landmarks. The nearby Archaeological Museum, situated about two kilometers from the palace, houses a remarkable collection of artifacts that chronicle Split's extensive history. I also visited the Church of Saint Martin and the Church and Monastery of St. Frane, each offering a serene contrast to the bustling streets outside. For a taste of local culture, the Riva, Split's scenic waterfront promenade, was the perfect spot to relax and savor delicious Croatian cuisine while watching the boats glide by.
Before concluding my trip, I made sure not to miss the intriguing Live Museum Split, where I experienced the city’s history through engaging performances and interactive exhibits. The Gregory of Nin statue, located nearby, is a popular landmark known for its unique charm—many visitors touch the toe of the statue for good luck. The remnants of the Temple of Jupiter, with its impressive architecture, further enhanced the sense of walking through time. Each of these landmarks is conveniently located within a half-kilometer radius of each other, making it easy to immerse oneself in the storied past of Split, while also enjoying the lively atmosphere of this beautiful coastal city.
