Impressions

During my recent vacation in Split, I was captivated by the city’s rich history and vibrant culture, all of which were easily accessible within walking distance from my accommodation. Just half a kilometer away, the Church and Monastery of St. Frane stand as a tranquil oasis, showcasing stunning baroque architecture and serene gardens ideal for quiet reflection. This remarkable structure, with its impressive façade and remarkable interior, offers visitors a peek into Croatia's spiritual heritage and historical significance. The nearby froggy attraction, Froggyland, was also a delightful stop, providing an unusual but charming museum experience filled with taxidermy frogs in whimsical settings, reflecting local creativity and humor.

Exploring the heart of Split, I found myself frequenting the vibrant Riva promenade, a popular gathering spot where locals and visitors alike enjoy leisurely walks, savoring coffee and gelato while soaking in the sun. A short stroll from the Riva led me to the Cathedral of Saint Domnius, another architectural marvel that dominates the city's skyline with its iconic bell tower. Just around the corner, the ancient Temple of Jupiter and the bustling Republic Square add to the area’s historical depth, showcasing the remnants of Split's Roman heritage. The rich atmosphere of the area was further enhanced by the lively ambience surrounding Live Museum Split, where interactive exhibits highlight the city’s intriguing past.

For a deeper dive into the region's history, I made my way to the Split City Museum and the Archaeological Museum, the latter located slightly further away but worth the 2-kilometer trek. Both museums provided an enlightening journey through the city's evolution over the centuries, from its Roman roots to contemporary developments. As I walked through the charming streets, I couldn’t help but admire how seamlessly ancient landmarks exist alongside modern life, particularly with the Split Port nearby, bustling with boats and ferries linking Split to the nearby islands. My vacation in Split was not just a getaway; it was an enriching exploration of a city that beautifully blends its past with the lively atmosphere of today.
