Impressions

During my recent vacation in Split, I was captivated by the city's rich blend of history and vibrant culture. My exploration began at the iconic Riva, the bustling waterfront promenade lined with palm trees and lively cafés, just a short stroll from the historic heart of the city. A visit to Old Split revealed a maze of cobblestone streets and charming squares, where I marveled at the architectural remnants from various eras. Just a stone's throw away, the magnificent Diocletian's Palace stood proudly, a UNESCO World Heritage Site that dates back to the Roman era. This impressive structure is not just a historical landmark but a living part of the city, filled with shops, restaurants, and vibrant local life. An equally fascinating site was the Church and Monastery of St. Frane, where I took a moment to appreciate the serene atmosphere and beautiful baroque architecture.

As my adventure continued, I ventured beyond the city center to discover more of what Split has to offer. The Mestrovic Gallery, located about 2 kilometers away, showcased the remarkable works of renowned Croatian sculptor Ivan Mestrovic, immersing me in the world of fine art and creativity. The Archaeological Museum provided further insight into the region's history, displaying artifacts spanning several centuries, while the nearby Stadion Poljud gave me a glimpse into Croatia's passionate sports culture. Each landmark in Split, including the Live Museum, where I witnessed reenactments of historical scenes, contributed to the city’s rich tapestry of traditions. The Split Port, with its stunning view of the Adriatic Sea, served as a perfect backdrop for my short walks, allowing me a moment of reflection on the beauty surrounding me at every turn.
