Impressions
During my recent vacation in Split, I was captivated by the city’s rich tapestry of history and culture, woven into its beautiful streets and vibrant atmosphere. One of my first stops was the Church of Saint Martin, a quaint yet historically significant structure located just half a kilometer from the bustling Riva waterfront. Its charming architecture and serene ambiance offered a moment of respite from the lively surroundings. Just a short stroll away, I encountered the imposing Gregory of Nin statue, a legendary figure in Croatian history. This towering sculpture not only celebrates the bishop’s contribution to the Croatian language but also serves as a beloved landmark where visitors often stop to rub the toe of the statue for good luck.
Continuing my exploration, I found myself drawn to the Riva promenade, a lively hub located just a stone's throw from the Church of Saint Martin. The Riva, adorned with cafes and palm trees, provided the perfect spot for people-watching while enjoying a refreshing drink. The nearby Croatian Maritime Museum captured my interest with its fascinating exhibits that highlight the maritime heritage of Split and the Adriatic Coast. With its proximity to the waterfront, the museum offered stunning views of the harbor, blending the historical with the present day. Just a short walk further, I encountered the Temple of Jupiter, an ancient Roman relic that stood in stark contrast to the brightness of the surrounding modernity, showcasing the city’s deep historical roots.
As my adventure continued, I delved into the treasures of Split’s Archaeological Museum, located about 2 kilometers from the core of the city. This museum, the oldest of its kind in Croatia, housed a remarkable collection of artifacts that illuminated the region’s ancient past. After immersing myself in history, I took a fun detour to the Live Museum Split, where I enjoyed a unique interactive experience that brought history to life in an entertaining way. Each landmark I visited poured more color into my understanding of Split and its surroundings, making my vacation an enriching journey through time and culture in this stunning coastal city.
