Impressions

During my vacation in Split, I was captivated by the rich history and culture that permeates the city. A mere kilometer from my accommodation, the Old Split area, marked by its ancient Roman architecture, served as a stunning backdrop to my explorations. Within this historic heart lies the Cathedral of Saint Domnius, an impressive structure that has stood the test of time since the 7th century. Its tall spire can be seen from many vantage points in the city, and climbing to the top rewards visitors with panoramic views of the surrounding landscapes, including the sparkling Adriatic Sea. Nearby is the Temple of Jupiter, an exquisite example of Roman religious architecture where I marveled at the beautifully preserved columns and intricate sculptures.

A leisurely stroll along the Riva, the city's bustling waterfront promenade, was another highlight of my visit. The Riva is a vibrant space filled with cafes and restaurants where both locals and tourists gather to enjoy the Mediterranean sun. Just a stone’s throw away from the prismatic waterfront, the Archaeological Museum in Split offers fascinating insights into the city’s past, housing artifacts that date back to the Roman period, making it a must-visit for history enthusiasts. As I wandered through the charming streets, I encountered the iconic Gregory of Nin statue, a finely crafted work of art that symbolizes the cultural and religious heritage of Split, attracting many visitors who stop to rub the toe of the statue for good luck.

To unwind from the historical explorations, I ventured to Marjan Park and Marjan Forest Park, just a short distance from the city center. These lush green spaces provide a welcome respite from the urban bustle, featuring winding paths through pine forests, scenic lookout points, and tranquil spots perfect for relaxation. The Mestrovic Gallery, located just a couple of kilometers away, showcases the works of the renowned Croatian sculptor Ivan Meštrović, offering a blend of cultural enrichment amidst the natural beauty of the park. My time in Split was nothing short of magical, filled with unforgettable sights, sounds, and experiences that beautifully encapsulate the essence of this enchanting Mediterranean city.
