Impressions
During my vacation in Split, I was captivated by the vibrant blend of history and modernity this coastal city offers. Just a short stroll from the Split Port, I immersed myself in the rich cultural heritage of the area. A visit to the iconic Diocletian's Palace revealed the impressive architecture from the Roman era, while exploring the narrow cobblestone streets of Old Split transported me back in time. Nearby, the majestic Cathedral of Saint Domnius, the oldest catholic cathedral in the world, stood proudly alongside the ancient Temple of Jupiter, which added to the city's historical allure. The lively Riva promenade, with its cafés and palm trees, was the perfect spot to unwind and take in the stunning views of the harbor.
My exploration continued with a visit to the Split City Museum, which showcased artifacts that highlighted the area’s fascinating past. I also made the trek to the Mestrovic Gallery, located just 2 km away, where the works of renowned sculptor Ivan Meštrović offered a modern artistic perspective amidst the centuries-old structures. Not to be missed was the statue of Gregory of Nin, an important cultural symbol, standing resolutely just a half-kilometer from the palace. Each landmark added a unique layer to my experience, confirming that Split is not just a destination but a tapestry of history alive with stories waiting to be discovered.
