Impressions
During my vacation in Split, I was captivated by the rich history and stunning architecture that permeated the city. One of the most remarkable sites was the Cathedral of Saint Domnius, located just 2 kilometers from where I stayed. This majestic cathedral, originally built as a mausoleum for the Roman Emperor Diocletian, is a significant example of early Christian architecture and remains a focal point of Split. Its towering bell tower offers panoramic views of the city, and exploring its intricacies, including Roman relics and beautiful chapels, was a highlight of my trip.
Another iconic landmark that caught my attention was the Gregory of Nin statue, also just 2 kilometers away. This impressive bronze sculpture commemorates the 9th-century bishop who advocated for the use of the Croatian language in religious services. The statue has become a symbol of Croatian independence and cultural pride, drawing visitors from around the globe to rub its large toe for good luck. After visiting Gregory of Nin, I strolled along the Riva, Split's vibrant waterfront promenade, where locals and tourists alike gathered to enjoy the picturesque views of the Adriatic Sea, sip coffee at outdoor cafés, and indulge in the city's lively atmosphere.
For a taste of relaxation, I made my way to Bacvice Beach, only a kilometer from my lodgings. Known for its golden sands and crystal-clear waters, this beach was the perfect spot to unwind and enjoy the Mediterranean sun. Just a short distance away, the Split City Museum and the Live Museum Split offered fascinating insights into the city’s history and culture, while the enchanting streets of Old Split revealed a blend of Roman ruins and medieval charm. My adventure culminated in a leisurely day at Znjan City Beach, where I reflected on my experiences in Split, surrounded by stunning coastal views and the gentle sound of waves lapping the shore.
