Impressions
During my recent vacation in Split, I was captivated by the vibrant atmosphere and rich history of this stunning coastal city. One of the most whimsical attractions I discovered was Froggyland, located just a short 0.3 km stroll from my accommodation. This unique museum features over 500 taxidermied frogs that are artfully posed in various humorous and intriguing scenes, providing a quirky yet delightful insight into the creative imagination of its founder. As I wandered through the museum, I found myself smiling at the charming exhibitions, a perfect reflection of Split's playful spirit.
Not far from Froggyland, I explored the impressive statue of Gregory of Nin, who stands proudly at 0.3 km away. This medieval bishop is celebrated for his role in promoting the Croatian language, and his statue, with its imposing figure and golden boot, attracts countless visitors. According to local legend, rubbing the toe of his statue brings good luck, which I, of course, had to try! Just a stone's throw further, I visited the Church of Saint Martin, another gem of Split's historical landscape. This modest yet beautiful church, dating back to the 9th century, is a quiet retreat that contrasts beautifully with the bustling atmosphere of the city, allowing for a moment of reflection amid the sightseeing.
The allure of Split continues beyond these landmarks. A leisurely walk of just 0.5 km took me to Split Port, a picturesque harbor that serves as a gateway to nearby islands, with ferries offering stunning views of the Adriatic Sea. I also made time to explore the Archaeological Museum, about 1 km away, where I marveled at artifacts that narrate the region's ancient past. If you're a sports enthusiast like I am, the Stadion Poljud, approximately 2 km from the city center, showcases the passionate spirit of the local football culture. After a day of exploration, I unwound at the Church and Monastery of St. Frane, 0.5 km from the bustling port, where the serene ambiance provided a perfect end to my day in this captivating city.
