Makarska, a picturesque coastal town in Croatia, is known for its stunning beaches, vibrant nightlife, and rich cultural heritage. During my vacation, I discovered that just a stone’s throw from my hotel, numerous landmarks and attractions enhanced the charm of this beautiful destination. One of the notable highlights was the Peninsula of St. Peter, located only a kilometer away. This serene spot features lush greenery, walking trails, and panoramic views of the Adriatic Sea, making it an ideal place for both relaxation and exploration. The peninsula, adorned with historical remains, served as a peaceful retreat, allowing visitors to immerse themselves in nature while gazing at the mesmerizing coastal scenery.

Just a short distance from the town center, I visited the Vepric Shrine of Our Lady of Lourdes, a pilgrimage site situated about 2 kilometers from the heart of Makarska. This remarkable monument is set in a tranquil forest and impresses with its stunning replicas of the Lourdes grotto. The serene atmosphere provides a reflective space for visitors, whether they come for spiritual reasons or simply to appreciate the natural beauty surrounding the shrine. The City Museum, found just half a kilometer from the center, showcases the rich history and culture of the area, featuring exhibits that delve into the local way of life, art, and historical artifacts—offering a perfect complement to the religious heritage experienced at Vepric.

Additionally, I enjoyed leisurely walks to nearby attractions such as Donja Luka Beach, the vibrant Kacic Square, and the charming Park Suma Osejava, each located within a kilometer of the town center. Donja Luka Beach is renowned for its clear waters and lively atmosphere, perfect for swimming and sunbathing. Kacic Square is the cultural heart of Makarska, providing an excellent spot for socializing, dining, and enjoying live music in the evening. My explorations also led me to the Muzej Riba i Rakova, a unique museum dedicated to marine life, and the striking Mlinice—a historical mill surrounded by natural beauty—all within convenient distances, making it easy to appreciate the diverse experiences that Makarska has to offer.
