Impressions

During my recent vacation in Split, Croatia, I was captivated by the city's rich history and stunning landmarks, all within a leisurely stroll from my accommodation. Just a stone's throw away, the magnificent Temple of Jupiter, built during the reign of Emperor Diocletian in the 4th century AD, stands as a testament to the city's ancient Roman roots. Its well-preserved state allows visitors to admire the intricate stonework and the serene atmosphere of the small chapel that now resides within. Equally nearby, the Ethnographic Museum offers a glimpse into the traditional life and culture of Dalmatia, housed within the old palace's walls.

The crown jewel of Split, Diocletian’s Palace, is just a short distance away and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, blending history and modern life effortlessly. Walking through its grand Peristyle, I was enveloped by the echoes of the ancient past, surrounded by marble columns and arches that have stood for centuries. The Cathedral of Saint Domnius, elevating from the heart of the palace, provides stunning views from its bell tower and is notable for being one of the oldest Catholic cathedrals still in use. After exploring these historical sites, I enjoyed a leisurely walk along the Riva, Split's vibrant waterfront promenade where locals and tourists alike congregate to take in the sun and enjoy delightful local cuisine.

For a more relaxed experience, I spent time at Bacvice Beach, just a half-kilometer away, known for its warm, shallow waters that are perfect for swimming and sunbathing. The beach's lively atmosphere makes it a great spot to unwind after a day of exploring. Additionally, I visited the Live Museum Split, an interactive experience that creatively showcases the city's history through live performances. My cultural exploration didn’t stop there, as I also ventured slightly further to the Archaeological Museum, with its impressive collection dating back to prehistoric times, and the bustling Split Port, from which ferries navigate the stunning Dalmatian coastline. Each stop I made fostered a deeper appreciation for Split's unique blend of ancient heritage and contemporary life, making my vacation truly unforgettable.
