Impressions

During my recent vacation in Split, Croatia, I was struck not only by its stunning coastline and vibrant culture but also by the rich historical landmarks surrounding the city. One of the most captivating sites I visited was the Church of St. Roch, located just a kilometer away from the bustling city center. This quaint church, built in the 17th century, boasts a charming façade and beautifully preserved interiors that reflect the spiritual heritage of the region. Its serene atmosphere provided a perfect place for reflection amid my travels, and I was infused with a sense of peace as I learned about its significance during the plague years.

Just a short stroll from St. Roch, I discovered the imposing Nehaj Tower, a stunning structure that stands majestically over Split. This 16th-century watchtower, only half a kilometer from the church, offered a glimpse into the city's defensive past and panoramic views of the surrounding countryside. Nearby, the Parish Church of Our Lady of Rosary, another highlight of my trip, captivated my attention with its impressive Baroque architecture. It was wonderful to explore its intricately decorated altar and vibrant frescoes, all while being immersed in the local culture less than a kilometer away. Along the way, I also visited Stara Maslina, a centuries-old olive tree that serves as a beautiful symbol of the region's agricultural heritage, only half a kilometer from Nehaj Tower.

The historical richness of Split continued to unfold as I explored more landmarks over the next few days. About half a kilometer west of the city, I encountered Cippico Castle, with its remarkable fortifications that reflect the life and power of medieval nobility. Following that, I ventured to the Castle Rotondo, which is just 500 meters away, offering a unique glimpse into the strategic military architecture of its time. Finally, my journey was capped off with a visit to the Church of St. Ivan Krstitelj, a serene monument that dates back to the 11th century, situated about a kilometer from the tower. The collective experience of these historical treasures made my vacation in Split not just a getaway but a voyage through time, deepening my appreciation for its cultural and historical significance.
