Impressions
During my recent vacation in Split, I was captivated by the remarkable blend of history and vibrant culture that the city has to offer. One of the most fascinating places I explored was the Live Museum Split, located a mere kilometer from the heart of the city. This unique attraction brings the rich history of Split to life through captivating performances and exhibitions, showcasing the culture of the region in a fun and engaging way. It serves as a perfect introduction to the treasures that await in the historic areas nearby, making it an essential stop for any visitor.
Having soaked in the atmosphere of the Live Museum, I made my way to Riva, the bustling waterfront promenade that stretches along the harbor. Just a short walk away, Riva is a vibrant hub where locals and tourists gather to enjoy coffee, ice cream, or a leisurely stroll while overlooking the azure waters of the Adriatic Sea. The nearby Diocletian's Palace, a UNESCO World Heritage site, is a must-see for its stunning architecture and historical significance. This impressive structure, also just a kilometer from Riva, was built in the 4th century and remains a focal point of Split's Old Town. Exploring the Peristyle, an ancient courtyard at the palace, I marveled at the Roman influences that weave through the city’s history.
The charm of Old Split extends beyond the monumental landmarks, as it is also home to various cultural institutions. The Croatian Maritime Museum and the Split City Museum, both within walking distance, offer intriguing insights into the city’s naval history and local life through the ages. I couldn’t resist visiting the Church of Saint Martin, a quaint, historical site reflecting Split’s religious heritage. Just around the corner, I discovered Froggyland, an unusual and whimsical exhibition featuring taxidermy frogs in various comic situations, which added a playful touch to my exploration. Each of these sites not only enriched my understanding of Split’s past but also painted a beautiful picture of the city’s vibrant present.
